What is IDEM?

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) was established in 1986 and has since grown to a staff of 900 people. The staff includes some of Indiana’s best engineers, scientists and environmental project managers who specialize in air, land, pollution prevention and water quality issues.

What do they do?

IDEM works to provide environmental oversight and technical support to communities throughout Indiana, including, business owners, farmers, students, teachers and parents.

Environmental/economic impact

IDEM offers a $500,000 grant to private businesses that are willing to participate in IDEM’s Recycling Market Development Program (RMDP). The private businesses will use the grant money to purchase equipment used specifically to remanufacture recyclable materials into finished products or industrial feed stocks.
