Hey, where’s a good place to drop off paint cans? I have a bunch from staining the fence.  Thanks, Melanie

Dear Melanie,

Your timing is impeccable! Saturday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the City of Indianapolis will host ToxAway Day at Butler’s Hinkle Field House. Residents of Marion County can use this program to properly dispose of unwanted and unused household hazardous waste, like paint cans, motor oil, CFLs and electronics. See a full list of accepted Household Hazardous Waste.

Can’t make it to ToxAway Day? No worries, there are ToxDrop locations around the city that are open various days and times.

Not a Marion County resident? Most municipalities/counties should have their own program. Hendricks County has a ToxAway Day coming up on August 11 too. Hamilton County  has a Household Hazardous Waste Center that is open five days a week. Johnson County,  there’s a Tox Box for you.

By the way Mel, your fence looks great! It creates the perfect oasis for your beautiful garden, new tree and for the kids (er, dogs) to play. (FYI – Melanie is my super awesome college roommate. Who’d a thunk we’d be worrying about properly disposing of paint cans one day?!?)
