I’ve got a guy! Circle City Rain Barrels has rain-barrel options for the do-it-yourselfer or the I-want-to-leave-in-the-morning-and-come-home-to-a-completed-project-er. And his prices are uber reasonable.

The DIY kit is only $60 — or you can participate in or host a DIY workshop for $80 per person — and he includes everything you need. Or, for $100, he’ll deliver and install your barrel (inside of I-465 in Indianapolis; additional charges outside of the loop).

Check out Circle City Rain Barrels on Facebook or email circlecityrainbarrels@gmail.com.

Of course, you can find a variety of rain-barrel shapes and sizes at almost any hardware store. The prices range from $100-150 and they’re super easy to install. Watch for one that includes a downspout diverter kit; otherwise, you’ll probably need to purchase a flexible downspout to direct the water from the gutter to the barrel. Another cool add-on is a solar pump that will enable you to push water through a hose.

Ms Renee – do you have any recommendations for keeping the rain barrel from getting clogged.  I clean them out, turn them up side down, rinse, clear the spigot portion, etc — but for about that past year, our rain barrels get clogged. Otherwise, we love them!!!

Hiya Julie, the only clogging issue I’ve had was from the downspout into the barrel. I just make sure to pull all the leaves and other debris out – usually after it’s been dry for awhile so it’s not slimy.

I’ll ask Mr. Andy of Circle City Rain Barrels to chime in too – maybe he’ll have more suggestions!

Well, there should be a very fine mosquito netting on the top where the water comes in so you stop the debris at the source into the barrel. There are diverters that are supposed to deflect away any debris. I do not offer them as of yet, but they can be found on any ‘rain barrel’ website. I will hopefully have them by the end of this season as well.
